Our world is governed by universal principles. When you obey them they work in your favour irrespective of your age, sex, race or status. And if you disobey them, they work against you. One of these principles which apply to practically every areas of our life is the Seed Principle. The principle simply states that: Whatever you sow you shall reap. If sow maize, you will surely reap maize. If you sow nothing you will definitely reap nothing! It is as simple as that. The seed principle applies to almost every human endeavor. It applies to:
- Business. Sow the seed of good quality product and excellent customer service, and then you reap a flourishing, vibrant and profitable business
- Relationship. Sow the seed of love and care, and reap healthy, happy and productive relationship
- Finance. Sow the seed of wise investment and reap great financial returns. Please note that wise investment is not putting your money on an investment product you don’t understand. Doing that is nothing but gambling. When you gamble, the possibility of good financial returns is not certain. Making wise investment decision requires a lot of hard work
- Career. Sow the seed of dedication and hard work and reap outstanding career success
- Ideas. Sow the seed of good thought in your mind, reap good ideas.
You see, I can go on and on applying the seed principle to every area of our lives. The point I am making is simple, there is no outcome in life either negative or positive that is not the consequence of a seed sown.
Perhaps you are beginning to wonder how does the seed principle tie into the topic of discussion – Life Purpose and Vision? Don’t worry; there is no cause for anxiety. Everything will be clear to you by the time I conclude. Just be patient and keep on reading.
Life Purpose answers the questions such as; what the “heaven” am I on earth for? What problem are you here to solve for humanity? Every one of us was created by God with potentials, talents and temperament that equip us to solve at least a problem for mankind. Providing solution to that problem is your life purpose. That means your life purpose is what you must donate to make our world a better place. It is what you must donate to mankind to make your vision a reality. It is very important for you to identify your life purpose because when the purpose of anything, including human being is not known, its abuse is inevitable. Apart from being abused, other consequences of failure to discover your purpose are lack of passion, waste of potential – your inner potential will lie dormant and untapped – this will ultimately lead to average or mediocre life.
The question now is: how do I discover my life purpose? The first thing is to pray for God’s guidance. Ask your creator what your purpose is. Nobody can know the purpose of any equipment more than its manufacturer. Though God had deposited in you potentials, natural talents, passion and temperament that make you a perfect fit for certain kind jobs or professions, you need His guidance to choose the one that will give you the best return on effort. After seeking God’s counsel, you can now focus on your passion, what you love doing, your talent and temperament to identify a purpose which aligns with His will for your life.
Vision is what you desire to become in future. It gives direction; it is your life compass that helps you to navigate your way through the journey of life. Having vision for your life helps you to be focus in life. Being focus will help you to utilize every resource available to you efficiently and effectively. It is however very unfortunate that most people do not have vision for their lives. Living life without vision can be likened to a piece of paper floating in the air. It moves in whichever direction the wind blows it. Similarly, people who don’t have vision for their lives move in whichever direction the circumstances of life push them. A visionless life is like a man setting out on a journey without a specific destination, the tendency is very high he will end up a derelict sometime, somewhere.
The common mistake
Majority of the few people who have vision usually make a common mistake. They often cast their life vision without identifying what exactly they need to do to make that vision a reality. Having vision without any idea of what you need to do, how you need to do it and when you need to do it to realize the vision will ultimately lead to mediocrity. Usually without any exception realization of any vision is the consequence of another action. That is, vision does not become reality just by itself; a price has to be paid for it. Therefore, once you have cast your vision. The next thing is to identify what you need to do – the price you need to pay make your vision a reality.
We Live in an Interdependent World
Since we live in an interdependent world, the price we need to pay for our visions is usually connected to doing something to make life better for other people. The most effective way to realize your vision is to identify your life purpose for humanity and fulfill it. Fulfilling your life purpose for humanity is the price you need to pay to realize your vision. Don’t forget I told you earlier that your life purpose is the problem you are here to solve for mankind.
Now, if you apply the seed principle to life purpose and vision, fulfilling your life purpose for mankind is the seed you must sow to reap the harvest of making your vision a reality. A life vision come true is the consequence of life purpose fulfilled. And you should take note of this fact too: you only realize your vision just to the extent you fulfill your life purpose. Don’t forget that, it is whatever you sow that you are going to reap. Your harvest – vision realized – is directly proportional to the seed sown – life purpose fulfilled. If we apply the law of direct variation in mathematics, we have:
Harvest α Seed Sown (to transform this expression into mathematical equation we need to introduce a constant K)
Harvest = K * Seed Sown
In this case, constant K is God’s blessing
Harvest = God’s Blessing * Seed Sown
Your life purpose is the seed while your vision is the harvest, so we can say that:
Extent of Vision realized = God Blessing * extent of Life Purpose fulfilled.
Years ago, the greatest teacher of all time from the plain of Galilee explained this principle of variation to us in a very clear term. He said:
“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” (Luke 6:38)
But unfortunately, most of us still don’t understand it. As a result, we narrow its application down to giving offering in the church. This principle applies to more than giving offering in churches. Giving offering in church is just the spiritual dimension of the principle. However, there is another dimension to it, that one involves using your talent, skill, knowledge, ideas, time and other resources to make life better for humanity. It is fulfilling your purpose to solve problem for humanity. This is another kind of giving which most people don’t pay attention to. Jesus said in the second part of the Bible verse above that: “For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” The implication of this statement is that the extent of reward that will be given to you depends on the magnitude of the problem you solve for humanity. The extent of your donation – life purpose fulfilled – to humanity determines the extent of reward that will be giving back to you – vision realized. This is the secret of genuine prosperity and great wealth that come without sorrow.
