“Life is all about choices. Good or Bad; Right or Wrong; Your destiny will unfold according to choices you make.”- Unknown. Our God is great and merciful. He created this world with a lot of options and choices for us to pick from. Additional, He gives everyman in this world the liberty to choose whatever he wants to do or become. Even though He expresses His desires for us to worship and obey Him, He does not force us to do so. This is what He demonstrated in the Garden of Eden. He gave Adam and Eve the freedom to decide which of the fruits they want to eat. Though he warned them not to eat fruits from a particular tree, He gave them the absolute freedom to make their decision. Today, just as in the days of Adam and Eve, life still presents us with several options and choices as well as the freedom to make our choice. In short, I have come to the conclusion that everybody in this life has the freedom of choice. Even when you limit yourself to a particular option for whatever reason, it is a choice. That is not making a choice is a choice. What you are today is what you choose to be. If you take your time to think and look around you very well, you will be surprised at the several options and choices that are available to you in every areas of your life. Whatever your circumstance today Rich or Poor, Employer or an Employee, a failure or a success, is your choice.
Stop Complaining, Do Something!
It is very amazing that majority of the people in the world today most especially in the poor countries will rather grumble and complain about a situation they choose to be. Because of poverty mentality, several people complain about circumstances which they have absolute control over. Instead of being responsible and exercise their freedom of choice, they blame other people. Some blame their bosses, some their employers, while some blame other circumstances for their problems. For those who complain and blame their employers, don’t forget that you are not under slavery. You have the option of looking for another employer or to become an entrepreneur. If you decide to move to another employer I bet it with you, you will also complain very soon. Why? Because there is no ideal employer, you will always have one issue or the other with them. The truth of the matter is that a typical employer is a capitalist who is out to make maximum profit with a primary aim of meeting his own personal goals. Hence, most of the time, your goal is mostly relegated to the secondary. The only way you can reduce the odd against yourself as an employee is to work with an organization whose mission, vision and core values align with your own. Before you accept the offer, you should always ask yourself, will I be able to achieve my life goal working with this organization? You need to remember that as organizations have the power to determine who their employees are, you also have the power to decide who your employer should be. The choice is yours.
If you are in the category of people who blame their circumstances for their predicament, listen to what George Bernard Shaw said: “People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can’t find them, make them.” You have the choice to either look for the circumstances you want or create them. Take full responsibility for your life and stop shifting the blame. When you fail to accept full responsibility for your situation in life, you lose control of your life to whoever or whatever you decide to blame. How? When you shift the blame to somebody, there is tendency for you to expect the person to bail you out of the situation since you believe he is responsible. So your life now depends on if he acts in line with your expectation or not which is totally out of your control. And when you blame circumstances, you hope for the circumstance to change for the better. Most of the time the events leading to the circumstance are not within your control, putting your hope such things which are not certain means ceding control of your life to uncertainty. Another consequence of blaming somebody for your predicament is bitterness and anger against the person. The bitterness will make you to focus your thinking on unproductive and negative thoughts such as revenge. But you need to remember that even if you succeed in retaliating, it does not solve your own problem. Your problem will still be as it was or possibly deteriorate in some cases. Remember that two wrongs do not make a right. On the contrary, if you sincerely accept responsibility for any undesirable situation you find yourself, you will naturally be inspired to think about the issue with the sole aim of finding a way out. Having positive thoughts about an issue will stimulate your mind to generate ideas which will eventually lead to solution to the problem.
Life has so much choices and opportunities. Unfortunately, most people don’t take advantage of these opportunities because of fear. Thereby, they live their lives at the mercy of other people and other things which are absolutely out of their control. It is time to exercise your freedom of choice. Stop hanging on to that job if it will not lead to realization of your dreams. Start that business at least on a part-time basis. The conditions will never be perfect. Those things which you fear that make you to cling on to the status quo are not real. Once you confront them, they will either disappear or run away. I watched a documentary where a lion was pursuing a buffalo. When the buffalo took the courage and turned around to confront the lion, the lion began to run for its dear life. Take the courage and confront your fear. Stop limiting yourself because of fear of failure. I am not saying failure will not come along the way but the reward at the end of the day more than justifies the risk. That buffalo could have kept up running and get killed, but by confronting the lion, it saved its life. Make the right choice, stop complaining, do something and start gaining. Thank you for reading.
